Pages and results

Choose a PDF to see its pages. Then split it by range, every N pages, page by page, or pick the pages you want.

Example

Input
contract.pdf (10 pages), ranges 1-3,5,8-
Result
contract-pages-1-3.pdf, contract-page-5.pdf and contract-pages-8-10.pdf, plus a ZIP of the three.

Four ways to split

Page ranges turn each comma-separated part into its own file: 1-3,5,8- gives pages 1 to 3, page 5, and page 8 through the last page. Every N pages cuts the document into equal chunks, with a shorter last file when the page count does not divide evenly. Every page as its own file creates one PDF per page, which is useful for splitting a scanned stack. A range that ends with a dash, like 8-, runs to the last page.

Pick pages is for taking a selection into one new PDF. The page previews on the right are real thumbnails from the document, and clicking them selects or clears pages, while the text field shows the same selection as a range. You can also type the range and watch the thumbnails follow. Previews load only as they scroll into view, and are shown for the first 400 pages.

How files are created

The PDF is opened once in your browser, and each output is built by copying the chosen pages into a new document with pdf-lib. Results appear in a list with their page counts and sizes. A single result downloads directly, and several can be downloaded one by one or as a ZIP. Up to 500 files are created per run, and the source can be up to 100 MB.

Splitting does not recompress anything, so text stays text and images keep their quality. The total size of the pieces can be larger than the original, because resources shared by many pages, such as fonts and logos, are copied into every file that uses them.

Limits and what is not kept

The new files contain the selected pages with their content and rotation, but not the document-level extras. Bookmarks, interactive form fields, the original title and author, and links that point to other pages are not carried over. If you depend on those, use a full PDF editor.

PDFs protected with a password or with encryption cannot be edited by the underlying library, and the tool tells you so right after you choose the file instead of failing later. Save an unprotected copy from a PDF viewer and try again. A damaged file is reported the same way. If a preview is missing, the page itself is usually fine; splitting still works without previews.

Frequently asked questions

How do I split a PDF into separate pages?

Choose "Every page as its own file" and press the button. You get one PDF per page and a ZIP of all of them.

What does 1-3,5,8- mean?

Pages 1 to 3, then page 5, then page 8 to the end of the document. In the ranges mode each of those becomes a separate file.

How do I extract a few pages into one PDF?

Use "Pick pages": click the thumbnails or type the range. All selected pages go into one new PDF in page order.

Why can't I open my PDF?

It may be password protected, encrypted, damaged or not a PDF. The tool shows which, right after you choose the file.

Is my PDF uploaded?

No. The PDF is read, previewed and split in your browser tab.
